What Can a Mommy Makeover Do?

At St. Petersburg Center for Plastic Surgery in Florida, our surgeon Dr. John J. O’Brien Jr., offers mommy makeover procedures. If you are unhappy with the appearance of your body after one or more pregnancies, then you can repair the damage to your abdomen and breasts. With a mommy makeover, you will undergo several procedures during one hospitalization, making it easier to return to your normal life faster. You will only need to have one recovery time rather than taking time off from work or your responsibilities at home several times.

What Can Dr. O’Brien Repair During a Mommy Makeover?

Before scheduling an appointment with Dr. O’Brien, you can determine what types of procedures are desired to repair the damage from pregnancy and breastfeeding. You may look in the mirror and notice several changes in your body, including having drooping breasts or having a bulging stomach. In addition, you may have developed larger amounts of fat on your thighs, hips or buttocks. Dr. O’Brien can liposuction excess amounts of fat from several areas of the body while also repairing your breasts and abdomen.

What Is a Tummy Tuck?

A tummy tuck is a procedure that plastic surgeons perform to tighten the loose tissue on the abdomen. An abdominoplasty procedure varies for each woman to repair the underlying tissues that have loosened from pregnancy. You will require anesthesia for this surgery so that Dr. O’Brien can make incisions to adjust the muscles in the abdomen. An incision is typically made lower on the body near the bikini line to make it less noticeable. During this procedure, Dr. O’Brien can suction fat from the abdomen and other nearby areas. In some cases, excess skin tissue is also removed to create a flatter abdomen. After this procedure, you must wear a tight girdle to support the incision, and you will return home to recover. However, you will have another surgery while you are under the effects of the anesthesia.

Repair of the Breasts with Augmentation

In addition to repairing the lax tissues of the abdomen, Dr. O’Brien is able to provide several types of breast augmentation services. After pregnancy, the breasts may sag or deflate, making a woman feel self-conscious about her appearance. At our plastic surgery facility, Dr. O’Brien can use a variety of techniques to lift the sagging breast tissue along with enlarging the breasts. Breast implants are inserted into incisions underneath the breasts or through tiny holes in the navel, and it is also possible to use the same incision that was made for the abdominoplasty procedure. A woman can choose from several types of breast implants including saline, silicone, or gel. Our surgeon can explain the differences between the breast implants and offer advice about the best type to use. The breast implants are placed under the chest muscle or behind the tissue of the breast, and Dr. O’Brien will make sure that the breasts have a symmetrical size, shape, and texture.

Reducing the Size of the Breasts

In some cases, a woman has a problem with enlarged breasts after pregnancies, and when the breasts are too large, it can lead to discomfort in the neck, shoulders and back in addition to making it difficult to breathe due to the weight of the enlarged breasts. Reducing the size of the breasts involves removing the extra fat and other tissues from the breasts. In addition, Dr. O’Brien will need to adjust the position of the nipples and areolas.
