About Lymphatic Massage
Within the body, the lymph system picks up fluids and waste products from the spaces between the cells, then filters and cleans them away. When the lymph system works well, we feel healthy and have a strong defense against illness. When it’s sluggish or blocked after surgery or an injury, we can have swelling, feel tired, and be more susceptible to colds and infections. A lymphatic massage may help the lymph system do its job better and can assist your body in clearing sluggish tissues of waste and swelling. Seasoned plastic surgeon Dr. John J. O'Brien Jr. is pleased to offer lymphatic massages to St. Petersburg clients. If you are interested in learning more, call St. Petersburg Center for Plastic Surgery today.
"I had a great experience with Dr. O'Brien. I had skin cancer on my ear and Dr. O'Brien performed surgery to remove it. The surgery was performed on the day that there was a mobile lab at his office and Dr. O was able to test tissue samples on the spot to ensure all the cancer was removed. Dr. O'Brien not only removed the cancer but did a fantastic job with the appearance of my ear such that one would never even notice any evidence of a surgical procedure. I look great and am cancer free. Many thanks to Dr. O'Brien and his terrific staff. Highly recommended for any type of procedure. Absolutely first class!"- B. / Google / Jan 07, 2020
"Love Dr. O'Brien and his staff! I had 2 procedures done in 2018. I see them every few months for followups and I could not be happier with my results!!!Dr. O'Brien really listens to you, he learns about you (the person) first before you even discuss why you are there are to see him. His staff are the same way! I would recommended Dr. O'Brien's office for all cosmetic surgeries, Dysport, and Botox needs!!!"- J.A. / Google / Dec 19, 2019
"Absolutely LOVE this office!!!! The PA Mary does my Dysport injections and she does an amazing job. She is very conscious of being conservative with it so I get the look that I want.I also get spa procedures done here with their esthetician, Dana. The Hydrafacial leaves your skin glowing right after!! She also does dermaplaning on my face, which I never had done, but I will definitely continue to do with her.The staff is friendly and knowledgeable about what they do. I recommend this office to anyone who is looking for cosmetic needs! FIVE stars all the way!"- B.J. / Google / Dec 18, 2019

"I can’t recommend this practice enough! Everyone from the back office staff, to the esthetician, to the PA and doctor are so kind and take such great care of you. I have gotten a few hydrafacials with Dana the esthetician and they are not only relaxing but also very effective. I have also gotten some dermaplaning done and love that it’s a quick add on but helps all my serums and skin care really soak in. The best part about Dana is that she really takes the time to understand your skin goals and adjusts your treatments to make sure everything is aligned. The PA Mary has done my Botox over the past year, over four treatments with varying units between the brows and on my forehead. I like to have expression in my face and not look too “done” or “frozen” and she helps me achieve the perfect look. I still have slight movement in my brows and show expression but without any wrinkling. People always say to me “you don’t need Botox!” so I know that means it’s working exactly as I want it to! I trust Mary completely - she is a perfectionist and cares about giving me the outcome I am looking for, which is so important for someone you are trusting with your face! The staff is so amazing, whether it’s squeezing me in for a last minute appointment or helping me figure out the best treatment plans, they always have a smile and a helpful attitude. I love this practice and can’t imagine going anywhere else for my treatments!"- C.M. / Google / Dec 17, 2019
A lymphatic massage is great for anyone who is recovering from an injury or surgery as it helps reduce swelling and promotes optimal blood circulation. It is also an ideal option for individuals with chronic fatigue or fibromyalgia. During your initial visit, we can go over all your concerns to determine if this treatment is right for you.
By using very light pressures in a rhythmic, circular motion, a massage therapist can stimulate the lymph system to work more efficiently and help it move the lymph fluids back to the heart. When you get a facial, your aesthetician will gently massage your face to help improve lymph flow. When lymph is moving freely in the face, you’ll have clearer, healthier skin without a buildup of toxins and fluids.
By freeing vessel pathways, lymphatic massage can help retrain the lymph system to work better for more long-term health benefits. Athletes/fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue sufferers can all benefit from a lymphatic massage. Furthermore, surgical procedures involving lymph node removal, such as breast cancer surgery, can cause limbs to swell. Lymphatic massages may prevent or treat the swelling.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does it cost?
The cost of a lymphatic massage will vary from patient to patient as it relies on the size and location of the area being addressed. During a private consult, we will listen to your concerns and create a massage plan that can help bring you much-needed relief. During this time, we can also estimate your costs.
What is the lymph system?
The lymph system is a network of delicate vessels and lymph nodes, which make up the primary structure of the immune system. The lymph nodes act as check points along the pathways of the vessels. They filter the fluid (lymphs) and serve as the home for lymphocytes — cells that attack and destroy foreign bacteria and viruses and even abnormal cells, like cancer cells.
How many massages will I need?
During a private consultation, we can assess your condition and build a custom treatment plan that is right for you. Many of our patients receive more than one massage to help achieve the best results and relief.
