About Breast Augmentation with Lift
Breast Augmentation with lift is a combination surgical treatment that not only enhances the size and shape of the breasts but also lifts the breasts to a higher more proportionate position. Natural changes to the body such as weight loss, pregnancy, and aging can change the shape and size of the breasts. Dr. John O’Brien offers breast augmentation with lift to help give the best cosmetic results possible. This surgical procedure uses silicone or saline implants to augment the size and shape of the breast to the desired look. The breasts are also elevated to a higher position for a more youthful appearance.

"I had both a timmy tuck and breast implantation replacement and uplifting. I am sure that is not the technical terms, but you get the picture. I was back at my desk able to work within 4 weeks. The scaring in so minimal considering what was done and removing all the stretch marks and rolls of fat and skin I expected a scar. Dr. O'Brien put the scar far enough below the belly button that it is easily covered by bikini cut clothing. The staff is very friendly and considerate. They talk to me and welcome me by name. The surgery was remarkably easy and they advised, anticipated and made sure I had as pain free a recovery as was possible. I definitely recommend Dr O'Brien for anyone desiring to look and feel better about yourself. To feel confident in your clothes and to feel better about yourself when you look in your mirror."- V.H. / Google / Jun 22, 2021
"650cc smooth round HP Subglandular Silicone Augmentation Inframammary - 36 year old mom of two. 5ft 128lbsRecently lost over 30lbs and knew this was the right time in my life to go for it. .Finally decided to do more research and met with Dr. John O'Brien. He and his amazing staff are so incredibly wonderful. They did everything to make me feel comfortable and gave me exactly what I was looking for. The atmosphere is so welcoming and positive. Couldn't be more happier!! Also, have not lost any sensation in nipples. Was a huge worry of mine but instead they are more sensitive than before.Updated on 14 Aug 2020:Only a week and loving the results so much!Feel and look amazing. Stopped taking pain meds after a couple of days. Only feel heavy when getting out of bed. Definitely feels "safer" with my sports bras for now but can't wait till I don't need to wear one. Not Rock hard anymore but still very firm.Updated on 21 Aug 2020:Been a little over two weeks and feeling great.Right breast still gets a few sharp pains through it but quickly goes away. Had my second post-op appointment a few days ago, stitches out and my surgeon said they look and are doing amazing. Have not lost feeling and nipple sensation is actually more sensitive than before. I know a lot of people worry about that, I did. Softening a lot and getting squishy. Was told I can go bra shopping in a couple of weeks already yay!! So very curious to find my new size. Also, thought my piercings closed up completely but didn't. Just needed to be stretched. I love them more and more each day.Updated on 13 Sep 2020:It's been a little over a month which seems crazy long ago but sounds so short. Definitely a lot has happened since. My boobs are absolutely beautiful. They've already dropped fully and incisions are healing well. Left faster than right. Though, I did end up taking my rings back out due to being pregnant. I was so freaked out when I found out that I called my surgeon before my regular Dr ????They said everything will be fine. So, I wanted big breasts and though I was slightly staying to feel they weren't as big as I wanted they definitely are now. However after the baby is another story. Hopefully I will still be able to breastfeed. Unfortunately, the pregnancy has caused a few new stretch marks, needing to go get more oil. Anyway, here they are 5 and a half weeks later...Updated on 4 Feb 2021:Doing amazing even though I am almost 7 months pregnant. Scars are healing wonderfully.Still best decision I've ever made! Was sized a month ago again and squuzing into a 36G Was a little worried in wouldn't be able to breastfeed but already leaking so all good! Love my boobs!"- F. / RealSelf / Sep 24, 2020
Breast Augmentation with Lift Technique
During this procedure, the lift will occur first. This begins with the surgeon removing excess skin residing on and around the breast to reshape it. The underlying muscle and tissue will be pulled tight and lifted so that the breast sits in a higher position. In addition, the nipple is usually repositioned. For excessively large breasts, the colored part around the nipple (known as the areola) will need to be surgically reduced. Dr. O’Brien will remove the outer circle and reposition the skin.
Breast LifT Incision
Breast lifts are performed with varying incision patterns. Some common incision patterns include:
- All the way around the areola
- Circumareolar (around the areola) with an additional vertical incision (a vertical line that will travel down the breast to the natural fold below the breast)
- Full circumareolar, vertical, and horizontal incision (referred to as an anchor or inverted "T")
Breast augmentation with a lift can usually be performed as a single surgery. However, some patients will choose to have this broken into two separate procedures. Some women are unsure of how large they want to go or how they will feel about the breasts’ appearance after the lift has been accomplished. If it has been decided ahead of time that an implant will be placed during the lift procedure, it is usually positioned below the pectoralis muscle. This adds additional support to the breast and acts as an internal bra, which results in a longer-lasting outcome.
Breast Augmentation with Lift During/After Surgery
Breast augmentation with a lift is performed under general anesthesia in an accredited surgical facility. Because this is a combination surgery, the recovery time can last a bit longer than a lift or augmentation alone. Most patients can return to work within a few short days, but exercise and aerobic activities should be eliminated for at least 2-4 weeks. It will take a few months for the breasts to settle fully into their new position and assume a soft, natural look. Women who have lived with sagging, deflated breasts are thrilled with their new breast appearance.
Breast Augmentation with Lift FAQ's
Will Implants Help Sagging?
Breast augmentation surgery will help with size, but will not lift a sagging breast. If there is moderate to severe sagging, women should be leery of any surgeon who recommends implants alone. Patients who are happy with the size of their breasts, but want to correct the sagging, will usually benefit with a breast lift procedure (without the placement of implants).
Which Incision Is Best?
During your consultation, the incision placement will be discussed after your breasts have been thoroughly assessed. Women with smaller breasts will usually benefit from an incision that circles the areola only. Larger breasts, or those that have severe sagging, may need the anchor-shaped incision to garner the best results.
Breast lifts are designed to last a very long time. As long as you do not experience a significant weight gain or become pregnant, the results can last for years. The implants are surgically placed in a way that protects the breasts from sagging. Age and gravity are unavoidable elements that will create some natural sagging throughout the years.
What About Scarring?
Unlike breast augmentation alone where the incisions can be carefully hidden, it is hard to conceal the incisions that are made during the lift procedure. The number of scars and their location will depend on the surgeon’s incision strategy. Every effort is made during surgery to minimize scarring. With proper scar care and an avoidance of sun exposure, the scars will fade and become thinner over time. Most women feel that the physical results following this surgery far outweigh the scarring left behind.
