What is the Sciton MOXI?

If you struggle with how your facial skin appears because of dark spots or sun damage, you are not alone. At St. Petersburg Center for Plastic Surgery, we can perform a skin examination at our St. Petersburg, FL office to see if you'll benefit from our Sciton MOXI laser treatment. This laser is a skin rejuvenation treatment for adult women and men with hyperpigmentation problems on their neck and face. The MOXI is a noninvasive process while still being very effective and creating great results. Dr. John O'Brien sends intense wavelengths of light that heat the skin just enough to start the natural healing process and increase the production of collagen. Over time, you should see a healthier layer with an improved tone and decreased spots. Contact our St. Petersburg, FL office to learn more and set up your Sciton MOXI consultation.

Am I A Good Candidate for the Sciton MOXI?

The MOXI works the outer layers of your skin to treat many complexion blemishes (especially brown lesions and sun spots) with minimal or no recovery needed. Candidates for MOXI laser treatments at St. Petersburg Center for Plastic Surgery may have several concerns with their complexion, including sun damage, rosacea, hyperpigmentation (brown spots), rough texture, visible pores, redness, freckles, age and sun spots, or laxity and wrinkles. This laser is suitable and effective for use on any skin type and tone. Dr. John O'Brien will examine your complexion to see if you will benefit from the MOXI laser during your private consultation.

How does the MOXI laser work?

MOXI treatments are completed at our St. Petersburg, FL office in about 12 – 15 minutes in our minor procedures room. To prepare for the process, the technician will wash and dry your skin before covering your eyes with goggles. The MOXI treatment is administered using a handheld device that passes over the skin while emitting pulses of non-ablative energy. While most patients may feel mild discomfort throughout the MOXI treatment, you will be numbed before the procedure to keep you as comfortable as possible. The MOXI laser treatment can be combined with other aesthetic services if you wish. Talk to your provider at St. Petersburg Center for Plastic Surgery to find out more about complementary procedures you can add to your MOXI treatment.

Sciton MOXI FAQ

How much does the MOXI cost?
Every patient case is unique, which means your cost for MOXI laser treatments will be dependent on your goals. St. Petersburg Center for Plastic Surgery offers monthly specials, and we take many forms of payment. During your initial consultation, we can help estimate costs and recommend the number of treatments needed for optimal results.

How comfortable is the treatment?
Depending on the level of treatment provided, most patients find the treatment well tolerated. Your practitioner may use cooling air and recommend numbing cream to help ensure your treatment is as comfortable as possible.

How quick are the results from the Sciton MOXI?
Improvements can be seen after your session, but final results are visible around one month after a full series of treatments is completed. It's common for patients to respond differently to every session. For the day following your treatment, your skin may appear red and, depending on your level of treatment, you may see the small micro dots called mendz where the laser was applied. As the micro zones heal, they will darken and feel rough. Between days 3-5, the mendz will slough off, revealing the renewed skin beneath. You will see a gradual improvement of redness, blotchiness, and spots (age, brown, and sun) over time.

What are the possible side effects of laser treatments?
It's common to experience mild, temporary side effects like swelling, redness, bruising, blisters, or crusting. This should subside in a few days. You can wear makeup as quickly as 24 hours after your MOXI treatment. You will be sensitive to sun exposure, which can negatively affect your results. Whenever you go outside, you should always wear sunscreen to avoid issues like spots and redness.

What is the post care?
Because this is a non-ablative fractionated treatment, the post-care regimen is simple. Wear a moisturizing physical sunscreen and stay out of the sun. You may wear makeup 24-hours after your treatment.

How many treatments will I need?
This will depend on your treatment goals and level of damage. Most patients receive 3-4 corrective treatments, then often will sign up for regular maintenance treatments throughout the year.
