A flat and well-toned abdomen is something many of us strive for through exercise and weight control. But sometimes these methods cannot achieve our goals. If you have an abdomen that protrudes, is loose, or saggy, a tummy tuck may be for you.
What is a tummy tuck?
In tummy tuck surgery, also known as abdominoplasty, Dr. O’Brien removes excess fat and skin and, in most cases, restores weakened or separated muscles creating an abdominal profile that is smoother and firmer.
Your tummy tuck will result in a flatter, firmer abdominal contour that is more proportionate with your body type and weight.
Am I a good candidate for a tummy tuck?
If you are bothered by the appearance of your abdomen, and want a firmer, sleeker silhouette, and if you have realistic expectations, you are a good candidate. Dr. O’Brien will discuss with you your expectations and the anticipated results of your tummy tuck.
The final results of tummy tuck surgery may be initially obscured by swelling and your inability to stand fully upright until internal healing is complete. Within a week or two, you should be standing tall and confident in your new slimmer profile.
How long is recovery from a tummy tuck?
During your tummy tuck recovery, Dr. O’Brien may apply dressings or bandages to your incisions, and you may be wrapped in an elastic bandage or a compression garment to minimize swelling and support your abdomen as it heals following surgery. Since recovery time depends on your individual procedure, Dr. O’Brien will discuss your recovery time with you during your consultation.
